I keep getting rips in the walls of my tyres, duck tape is ok for the smallers ones but the bigger holes just push the tube through.
Can you get propper patches for the tyre wall?
It will just make the tyres last a bit longer.
Park tyre boot.
Sounds like you need better tyres though.
stripe, ive gone through 3 bonty mud x's in the last 8 months (inc one last night on ice/frozne mud) a lot of the time tyre quality doesnt come in to it really IME my HR/advantages/mudx/spesh captains&fast tracks have all holed at some point, i guess im just shite at picking lines!!
Not for me to judge.
I have only holed two tyres on the lasy 10 years, one split in a Schwalbe Fat Albert (great tyres) on the rocks in Chamonix, the other a Schwalbe Black Shark Mud (again a great tyre - there is no better for the mud) which i had on & off the bike for three years.
Park Boot got me out of trouble though.

The crucial part of that statement is "bonty". I've holed sh*tloads of their tyres. They have feeble sidewalls. Nice and light and cheap and grippy when they work though!
Toying with maxxis LUST now.. Will see what comes of it.
Bonty Mud X is also the only tyre i've ever burst a sidewall on. Wafer thin.
I used a Park Tyre boot but they don't stick very well on their own so some gaffer tape over it as well is a good idea.
Apparently a good home made bodge is a section of empty toothpaste tube cut to size - virtually the same material as the tyre boot anyway but much cheaper.....
I've used the toothpaste tube with duct tape to hold it in place before now thats held out till new rubber arrived half a dozen rides later, that was on a Panaracer Cinder at the Marin.
Another cheap temp fix/bodge is 4" DPC
