Okay, so I would like some tryes that are grippy, roll well on tarmac aswell as off road and a reasonable weight. Any of your opinions of tyre choice are much appreciated.

One thing I've learned from listening to others is that you can spend too much time analysing tyre treads, focus more on technique and you should be able to deal with most conditions, focus on fitness and you should be able to push any tyre along tarmac. 😉
Most of your requirements don't easily sit together - you'll need to compromise
Just pick a general tyre for your type of riding and put up with it's short comings elsewhere
Dont know of a tyre that meets all of that criteria but i have just bought some panaracer fire xc tyres from Merlin cycles. 2 tyres for £25. I mainly do trail riding and they are excellent for that. I have used them for short trips on the road and they seemed fine for that but you are looking at two very different functions
