I know it's probably been asked a hundred times but humor me with your experience!

Hard tail on mainly bridleways or single track. Few roots but lots of mud and some rock, some road climbing to reach the fun down bits. I have original mountain kings but they feel sloppy in the soft stuff.

Conti mountain king mark2 or maxxis advantage 2.2 suggested so far, any views? Is the conti black chilli worth the extra?

There's so much choice!

Thanks in advance!

Continental Verticals, 2.3's, dead cheap and I find them nicely predictable.

Maxxis high rollers are nice but apparently, when they let go, there's no returning.

Liking my maxxis Minions fr on the front. High roller on the back. Apparently the rear minion isn't good or so they say.

Best allrounders I've used

Hans Dampf 2.35 Trailstar front Pacestar rear

Bontrager XR4 TLR

Maxxis Advantage and Ardent 2.25 60a

Rubber Queen 2.2 UST Black Chilli (yes it's worth it)

Maxxis Minion 2.35 DHF the right way round on the front and reversed on the back. Really grippy on pretty much everything.

The original Mountain Kings aren't bad in mud - pretty rubbish at almost everything else though! MK2 2.4 or RQ 2.2 (black chili) front and X-King 2.4 (black chili) rear is a great hardtail solution which rolls amazingly fast and has enough squish and grip for most situations.
