OK, probably opening a can of worms here, but I am after a tyre. I've been running Nobby Nics and absolutely love them- loads of grip AND fast rolling! Who would of thought?!? BUT! I keep slashing mine to pieces and it seems to be worse when I use them tubeless, which I prefer. So, does anyone know of a similar tyre that is a little stronger? I appreciate they will prob be a bit heavier (Nobby Nics weigh about 500g!!), but hopefully not too much...
Replace whichever tyre suffers with a UST and accept its heavier for a reason.
Racing Ralph UST's are tough (and lighter than NN's), I've one of the rear of my HT at the moment after ripping 2 Bontrager TLR's last week. I run tubeless too.
UST NN are still a pretty soft carcass IME - mine got cut up quickly by the little flinty stones we have round here. I suppose the soft rubber is what makes em grippy but it's a shame the carcass itself can't be tougher
Thanks! I agree, Racing Ralph's are an excellent tyre, I just found that they struggled a bit where I ride the most (Epping forest, it tends to get really muddy!)
Do you think that the reinforce the whole carcass for the UST version? I know that they only do the sidewalls for the Snake Skin ones...
Flint vs Rubber
Flint is always going to win.
Flint-resitant or lightweight carcass you can only pick one.
