This weather made me go and pick up my turbo trainer from the bro in laws who borrowed it years ago.

Will a normal road tyre explode from the heat? Do I need to splash out on a proper trainer tyre?

Normal road tyres are fine.

Used normal tyres on mine for years without problem.

you can use normal tyres but in my experience the heat generated tends to cause them to deteriorate more rapidly. Use a v.cheap one or invest in a proper one.

I use an old tyre I wouldn't trust on the road, it's lasted for hundreds of miles - Bonty race x lite. Others I know have shredded their tyres so I wouldn't use one I cared about.

it does seem to wear them down fast. Old or cheap tyres are the way! Also consider an old front wheel, I've buckled 2 wheels on the turbo since feb..
