I've stuck my toe in the tubless pond. Woke up to a rear tyre punture this morning and decided it was time to go tubeless. I already had the tyres and rims so quick £20 at Evans got me two valves and a bottle of Stans. Took me 10mins to do the back tyre, i had expected an hours worth of farting around but no probs.

First ride tommorrow, will i notice the difference? doubt it, are there any tubeless based pit falls to watch out for ?. My other bike has standard rims and bonty big earl folding tyres, can these be converted to tubeless?

Take something with you like a piece of cardboard that can be used in case you pinchflat the tyre wall, otherwise the tube you use to get you home will expand out of the hole in the tyre.

Or a tyre patch like this

They've saved me a long walk on more than one occasion.

Don't let the presure get too low (min 35 psi?) or you'll loose the tyre off the rim unless using UST. I've lost a converted tyre like that but the CO2 pump I carry let me re-seat the bead and carry on, would never have worked with a mini pump!

specializedneeds - have you used that with sealant? I doubt it.

The panaracer kit MAY fix a hole in these circumstances, I doubt much else would though (other than a tube).

Carry Innovations tubeless repair kit, brilliant, especially when you pinch flat on the tyre bead.

Er, cynic-al, did you read Daffy's suggestion?? From both your posts I guess not! A tube and some cardboard to stop it bulging out the slit is what was suggested. The patch is an alternative to the cardboard which, yes, I have used with sealant, and a tube - pretty messy but it worked! Had to scrape the sealant off to get it to stick, better than a long walk.

35 psi min? I run 30 psi F&B no probs. Low pressure is where its at!

Take it easy first ride tho, just to be sure it stays together.

Interesting. I didn't think cardboard would work - I've always used energy bar wrapper type stuff.
