can i set my 29er wheels up tubeless?
they are shimano575 disc hubs/mavic TN119 rims

if so,any pointers,or should i save my money towards some new wheels?

You can do pretty much any wheelset, some require more persistance than others. Both my mtbs are tubeless and I really like the punture protection element, but it can be a pain getting setup, so question if you can be bothered. Its not going to save you money, and I'd debate the whole grip, feel argument being detectable to most mortals.
If you want to do it anyway, go for It. Ive used stans, caffe latex tape and done ghetto in the past. Recommend using new tubeless ready tyres and a kit rim strip or tape. Theres loads of hints online, I had pretty good experience with the cafe latex kit and conti tyees and sealant, I did end up with a ghetto compressor. Woukd recommend sticking a tube in overnight to help shape tyre to rim as out of packet they can be a pain to seal.
