[#2628113]

Bit of a tubeless newbie and over the weekend, swapped over my front tyre from a UST-specific tyre (which was working fine) to a 'tubeless-ready' one. Got it inflated and stuck some sealant in, but it just keeps leaking air over a period of several hours. Looks to be the seal between the rim and the bead - what am I doing wrong?

Did you put washing up liquid on the bead of the tyre ?, the instructions normally say to use a mixture of water/washing up liquid but i find using it neat works best.

rim strips?

Soapy water on bead to allow it to seat properly?

I predict the tyre you're talking about is a Schwalbe....

Is it a bontrager rim with offset spokes?? You may need asymmetrical rim strips like I did.

Over inflate the tyre and leave overnight for the bead to settle.

Make sure you shake the tyre from side to side whilst revolving the tyre around 360º on both sides.

Have you tried shaking the wheel and lying it down, alternating sides, so that some sealant leaks through the rim/bead area and seals any gaps?

My money is on not removing the old sealant from the successful old attempt. Annoyed me no end that did...

That'll be it then. Didn't use washing up liquid and span the wheel whilst vertical rather than horizontal on both sides (seems rather obvious now!)

To satisfy anyone's curiosity, it was a Conti X King on No Stans Olympic.

Cheers! Will be back when I screw up my next attempt! 🙂

Conti X King racesport by any chance?

I couldn't get one sealed either, after a few weeks of it slowly losing air I found something on the internet about the mould release agent stopping the stans solution from being able to seal the tyre. Took it off, scrubbed the inside of the tyre with degreaser (gave it a proper good scrubbing just to be sure) back on with new solution sealed up no problem.
Just put on a mountain king racesport last week, cleaned the inside out first, and that sealed up no probs as well.

Did a Continental X King Supersonic on Stans 355.Took a few weeks of leaking sidewalls to finally seal! Seems to have settled down now.The shaking and lying it down in different plains seem to have helped!
Thanx Max
