Hi,
I need to be told where I'm going wrong.
I've inherited some Giant P-XC2 rims, that have been run tubeless before. They have tape nicely installed and American Classic Valves.
The tyres I'm using are Racing Ralphs, but they seem a bit baggy and trusty track pump isn't getting enough air in quickly. I've briefly tried using a compressor at the local garage, with a shraeder adapter on the valve. But there seemed to be too much stuff in the way for air to be getting into the rim....
I've had an inner tube in the tyre overnight and it beaded nicely, but obviously fell straight off when I took the inner tube out.
Any tips on inflation technique appreciated?
I had the same last weekend - use the tube again and this time add a cup of Stans / fluid. Shake it all about as usual, leave overnight.
When you remove the tube the preexisting fluid will seal the tyre (remember to add more as a lot of it comes out with the tube).
Great tip, thanks!
Surely the fluid doesn't get all the way around, because the tube is in the way?
Do you have a removable valve core? Remove it then stick track pump on and pump like your life depends on it. stick it on the bike to take the weight off the tyre so it doesn't miss-shape the tyre and if you have anyone around to help have them stretch the bead where the valve is to make sure the air is inflating the tyre and not escaping straight away. Wire beaded tyres are the easiest to mount. Obviously when you hear the popping of the beads seating and got about 40psi in remove the pump from valve then I in the other hand have the core ready to stick straight in. use your finger to stop the air escaping in between.
This is my method and they mount first time every time. Or maybe I'm just lucky. 🙂
Don't forget valve/logo alignment! 😀
1. Soapy water and

Works a charm.
Valve core out and soapy water spray, quick and easy way to get more air in. Once it beads you can let it down, add your fluid then repeat and pop the core back in once up to 40psi. Top up and spin - do most of mine with a track pump now.
Extra wraps of tape to tighten fit - needn't be the proper stuff.
New valve core or clean existing.
Extra tape does it for me. Can be a faff but the tyre needs to be reasonably tight to trap the air until the bead seats.
I find that most air is lost around the valve so gentle squeezing helps.
New tyres.
Thanks for the tips guys.
I do have removable cores, but didn't appreciate that the tyres would stayed beaded and allow me to get the core back in. So will try that approach next.
Also, thankyou Frankers, you may have hit on a good point. My track pump only works if the elbow exiting the barrel is bent one way, it's a bit of a PITA, so was thinking of replacing it. If a track pump with greater volume will help, then maybe that is a good move.
Seriously, try the ghetto inflator. Bit of a faff to make but 60psi in a 2 litre fizzy drink bottle delivers more whoosh than any track pump ever will. Got to be worth a pop 🙂
Johnny - Just seen your link, I like the sound of that! Will be trying that tonight / tomorrow evening! Will report back
core out.
ghetto inflator to 40psi.
WHOOMPH! - with the pump still attached to the ghetto inflator, pump back up to 40psi.
carefully, disconect the ghetto inflator, and the pump.
pour 100ml of jizz through the hollow core.
replace the core, and give it a bloody good pumping!
done.
