[#1423475]

i'm going to convert my rear wheel to tubeless but the question is do i run with normal tyres or a ust version. I will be using a maxxis crossmark and obviously the rim (mavic 717) will have all the sealing and sealant in it but my concern is that normal tyres will not be upto the job in the long run. obviously i can buy the ust version and it will go up no problem but it does carry a weight disadvantge. i can't see myself running very low pressures so i hoping the normal bead will stay put.

so the dilema is do i sacrifice weight against durability/security.

anyone got any experience of running a normal crossmark on a tubeless conversion. Thanks

Not a Crossmark, but 2.1 High Rollers were fine for me on a converted 717, until the sidewalls got cuts in them at Afan!

I run Kenda's with the SWS side wall shield now and no cuts since. Sidewall strength does become a bit more of an issue with non-UST tubeless as the sealant struggles to seal sidewall cuts that normally a change of tube would solve.
