I've just got a new rear wheel, a Stan's Flow, and am planning on running it tubeless. Thing is, I just can't see how I'd inflate the tyre without compressed air. Is there a way or do I have to buy one of those CO2 cartridge wotsnames?
It can be done with a decent pump... I've had mixed results with CO2 but maybe I'm just not very good at it. TBH I wouldn't do tubeless if I didn't have my compressor personally, not that it's needed, just that it makes it so easy whereas flailing away trying to seal a tyre by hand can be orrible.
I have some Stan's crests (I think, shamefull that I just use the things without really remembering what they are once I've chosen & bought them) and the tyres I have inflate easy with a track pump.
I also have a Stan's kit on some Richey rims and they were not so easy but only take rather more rapid pumping on the track pump & plenty of washing up liquid to lube/help seal.
I do own a compressor but have not yet used it for bike tyres. I think there is a great deal of luck involved in what tyre/rim combination you happen to have.
Short answer, if you have a track pump give it a go.
New folded tyres can be a PITA to get seated. The best option is to leave them for a couple of hours / overnight inflated with a tube. Then unseat one side, plenty of water with washing up liquid like on the stans site, then pump up with a track pump easy peasy. Remove valve core and put sealant in with an injector. Go for a ride 🙂
