Looking around at various frames (primarily Ti) and I see quite a spread of tube diameters - particularly downtubes. What are the pros and cons of the larger diameter tubes in terms of stiffness, longevity and weight?

Doubt the diameter of the tube tells you a lot on it's own - the wall thickness would also be a big part of the picture too.
