The care of them more to the point. Ive got some off dxtreme there. Want to keep them as spares but tbh I only use my light sporadically. Whats best practice re keeping them in good nick, do they require charging periodically or are they good to go, finite lifespan?

Cheers

Fridge 'em. Make sure there's some (50%+ but not fully charged) charge in them.

Yep, or somewhere cool. Slows the rate of deterioration.

Fair play, thanks.

The cold speeds up the discharge rate...the chemical reaction or something needs more energy to do it's thing...so uses up the charge quicker.

I wouldn't fridge them but I'd keep then in a cool, dry place.

Best kept in a approx 50% charged state in a cool dry area. I wouldnt suggest a fridge as this is also damp and wet and could corrode the battery.

The protection circuit continually drains the battery (only a few milli amps)and after a length of time it will totally drain the battery to 0V and this will not be recoverable.

They are best kept at 50% for long periods as Li-Ion cells don't like being stored at 100% charge for long periods as this can reduce the cycle life quite drastically.

How can you tell if you have a 50% charge? The charger is a fairly rudimentary affair. No power levels to see what kind of state theyre in? I take it that they are shipped fully charged?

Cheers for the feedback btw.

smudge do you mean 50% of the way between the cut off charges on a protected cell? 2.75 is more than half the full charge so you can't get them down to 50%.

Merak, They are shipped approx 30-50% charged for safety issues.

Yes BigJim
Cut off is ~ 2.5V per cell depending on protection circuit fitted
Full charge is 4.2V per cell
so 50% charged ~ 3.35V

Best way is to just half charge them, 50% is only a guideline.

Basically dont leave them in a fully discharged or fully charged state for long periods ๐Ÿ’ก
