I've been considering swapping to a rigid fork on my old commuting bike (Spesh Hardrock) and quite like the look of the Trigon forks which are sold on Ebay.
However, at 16st (more when kitted up) i'm a tad nervous about the full carbon steerer and was just wondering if these may be a bit too lightweight for me (around 500g)?
I like them because the bike still runs vbrakes and most other carbon forks seem to be disc only these days.
A chap on BM has them and says he rates them but he is only 11st.
Anybody have a set or any information on them? I've emailed the seller to see if there is a maximum rider weight and am awaiting his response.
They'd be used 95% on road with occasional light offroading (no more than towpaths really). And how good are carbon steerers when it comes to clamping on the stem etc? Cheers.
As far as I know, they are CEN tested, which is very stringent (though strangley the CEN test for forks is quite a bit easier than the CEN test for frames. Odd).
Trigon are very good with carbon.
I have a set and they are stiff enough but I find them frighteningly light for proper offroad (though I'm perfectly happy with a carbon steerer on my cross bike). Probably they'd be fine for what you want but do you really need something that light for commuting on a hardrock? I heard they are the same as Ritchey WCS forks so you may be able to get info on them if you don't get an answer from the seller.
It's not the lightness that attracted me, it's the fact they look good and have vbrake bosses when most competition is disc only.
I don't even commute anymore (i did when living in london) but as my Hardrock is the bike that got me into cycling i like to treat it from time to time. ๐
The seller came back saying that he does not know of any weight restrictions and he knows people of my weight who ride them with no problems.
Nostoc, is it wiser to have a carbon stem for a carbon steerer tube or does it not matter? Cheers
i run a set and they are very tough, im 14st and had no probs at all.
Can't really help you on that MrTall, other than that road bikes have run carbon steerers long before carbon stems became popular. You may have to be careful of sharp edges and things.
Hmm. I have a 550g full carbon mtb fork in design at the moment. I think the biggest problem is convincing people it's strong enough ๐
Brant, have you considered designing a full carbon 400mm c2a disc-fork for 700c wheels?
I only ask because they don't exist. I want to run my roadie with disc on the front but the weight penalty on current 700c disc forks is putting me off.
