[#916007]

Anyone had any experience of the above? Does using one lead to premature BB shell failure? There's also a US version from a small outfit called Forward Components.
I'm looking to run a hub gear and EBBs seem to be the best solution to chain tensioning (if done properly) and the above allows any frame to be used.

Too good to be true?!

Going to be trying one of these soon. I have just had the tabs ground of a pair of XT cranks and ordered a Surly ring. I think there is some feedback on MTBR.

Thanks hopster,
That's really useful.

Everything you'd ever need to know and more about the Forward Components EBB. They do go on a bit don't they?!!

So which one are you going for? I guess i'm with the Exzenriker as it's a bit more established. Forward Components looks good though. Spoilt for choice!!

I already have an Exzentriker at the LBS together with the ring and bolts. Just waiting for a suitable time to go and pick them up. Should be in the next 7 days. Will post back once I have fitted it all and ridden it.

i recall somebody having one on this forum.
they used a set of road cranks on it for singlespeeding.
and i think i saw somebody else had to grind off the granny ring bolts because they fouled the device itself.

I'm not surprised there were clearance issues. It looks a little on the 'bulky' side but i'm not completely sure.

Hopster, I look forward to reading your post after you've put some miles on your new set up!

Cheers.

Forward Components one doesn't need the cranks modifying now IIRC - works with bog standard XT cranks. That'd win it for me.

Having spent some hours arguing with my chain tensioner this week I'm seriously looking at getting one.

Yes, I had an Exzentricker and a friend had another. I'm sure a search for 'Exzentricker' would turn up our thoughts from previous posts. Suffice to say, I've ordered a Forward components one now.

Sam,

How has the Forward Components EBB performed?

Cheers,

I've tried a trickstuff... it doesn't work and would not recommend it.
I'm planning on trying a Forwards components EBB in the future.

yes but the niner one fits into a EBB shell where as the trickstuff one fits into a normal bb shell...

Well, I've been using an Excentriker for about eighteen months and it has always worked fine for me. Yes, you have to machine off the granny ring mounting bosses but it's not like you're going to need them again, is it?

My only criticism is that they should have had a couple of blind holes in the periphary of the eccentric cups so that you could use a "C" spanner to adjust them. I keep meaning to do the mod. when I strip it down for cleaning and relubing but so far I've not needed to do so, so it remains unmodified....

I have the Excentriker and the Forward Components. I haven't used either yet because they are for future projects, but I reckon the Forward Component one looks like a better piece of kit and comes with the adjustment tool.

I agree about the Forward Components version looking to be the better engineered of the two (and even better for having the adjustment tool included). If I was buying another that's what I'd get but it wasn't available a couple of years ago.
I might get one for when the Excentiker gives up the ghost though.
