What type of bikes do the tri guys ride? Are they just standard road bikes with tri bars?

this is a lot better than the woman's race - thinking about it this is prob the first time Ive watched triathlon for 15 plus years - interesting to see how the sport has evolved in that time.

The breakaways and working together made sense, the sitting in a huge pack with lots of people sitting up didnt really make any sense - prob becasue I think of triathlon as an individual sport not a team sport.

Aero-framed road bikes, usually. Sometimes with mini-bar extensions, usually with deeper section wheels than a standard road bike.

Fingers-crossed Gomez is still a bit off-form and he's going to crack badly trying to stay with the Brownlees... When does JB need to take the penalty (or is the time just added at the end)?

JB 18 seconds behind Gomez, take away the penalty it could have been a great race between them or maybe Gomez settled for 2nd and didn't go as hard as he could have in the last km or so.

Great tactics from the brothers. I've seen Gomez blow up big time when he tries to follow AB and loose a load of time in the last km or so. AB goes super hard, Gomez knows he has to follow to win but if he falls apart JB would have snapped him up. In the end Gomez played it safe to protect silver. Nice work lads.

From the Guardian live text
"Stuart Hayes has also revealed that Alistair Brownlee ...
... wants to do the 10,000m and the men's triathlon in the 2014 Commonwealth Games."

Wow! Simply wow!

Sat at work so didn't get to see it but just seen this on the Telegraph live feed:

"And here's a nice little fact, courtesy of former cricketer Alec Stewart on Twitter. Not a bad one for putting the elder Brownlee brother's victory into context...

Alistair Brownlee ran that 10k just 83secs slower than Mo Farah on a track having just swam a mile and cycled a marathon first."

Holy sheet. That's quite something!

There's a great story of Alistair Brownlee running up a yorkshire moor path the winter before last and coming across the parents of one of his old class mates from school. He stopped and had a chat with them for a couple of minutes until some other runners appeared up the hill then he told them "I must go, I'm in a race and they are catching me up". He was in the middle of a county standard fell race!

So Mo would have lapped him?

Just checked. He would have finished just 1 second behind our other 10k runner Christopher Thompson ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

So it's not only our women 200m runners and 100m hurdlers who aren't actually the best in the country.

What an amazing race. I got to the telly just as the Brownlees hit T1 and was transfixed. Amazing pair, AB in particular, but to take a 15 second penalty and still get bronze is an outstanding achievement.

I was wondering if they'd decide to go hard(er) and break everyone to give JB a cushion. Haven't seen an interview yet, but it seems possible?

I think AB is probably our second best 10k runner at present which says a lot about the depth of 10k running in this country. Thats not a criticism of AB but if I was Chris Thompson I would be disapointed.

On the basis of times recorded, that's hard to dispute - and I think there would be a pretty good argument that JB is our 3rd best 10k runner. Though there is the question of how accurate the triathlon run course distance was - given it was a non-standard distance with the bike course anyway, just how bothered were they about it being exactly 10km?

I assume they could have move the bollard on the "out and back" section a bit further away if it was a wee bit short?

Mo's pb is 45 seconds quicker than what he ran in the final.

Is it not 'triatherlon'?That's how they keep referring to it as on the telly box.
