Anyone ridden the stretch of the NCN 62 between Manchester and Liverpool? What's the surface like? Is it rideable on a road bike?

My dad is out doing a section of it on his hybrid this very afternoon. You'll be reet. While its dry(ish) in the summer, I can't think of any sections that should cause you any bother. Some of it can get a bit muddy on anything other than the 2 weeks a year when it isn't raining

Might be a couple of muddy sections near Lymm, but they'll only be short.

From Warington to widnes mostly on and off road, new route along widnes camnal and diversion at new bridge in Runcorn/widnes, then some steps down hill at widnes steps, tarmac and crushed stone to Hunts Cross, then tarmac to Aintree and onto Maghull, then crushjed stone to Plex moss lane, now resurfaced, and then bouncy cycle patrh to southport.

Did it on sunday and it was dry.

No issues at all on that section apart from as mentioned diversion around new Runcorn Widnes Bridge and usual dog mines.

Thanks all. Sounds alright but I think I'll look for an on-road alternative.
