Heading over to stay near Dent Station in January and fancy taking the bike. What are the trails like around Scales Moor, Whernside etc in Winter? Are they well drained or deep bogs?

Any suggestions of decent trails in the immediate area would be appreciated.

Scales Moor gets wet when in winter however it's ridable even when wet albeit hard going. When frozon though it is fast and magical.

Dent Occupation Rd, Monkeybeck, Arten Gill, Widdale etc all around Dent are all good. The wind and possible bad weather as well as the daylight will play more of a part in how far you can ride than anything.

Nice ride is Road to train station, Monkeybeck to the summit, new Pennine BW down to Newby Head (not on maps yet), new Pennine BW to Cam Head (again not on maps), Cam Rd to Ribblehead (shown as FP on maps but now Pennine BW), Blea Moor , Craven Wold, Whernside Manor, road back to Dent Station. Probably under 3 hours in good (perfect) conditions but more if the weather is bad. Plenty of scope for adding bits on if you want (including Hawes, Occupation Rd, Scales Moor etc) to make a very long day.

Cool thanks for those ideas. I'm off to get my map to check them out.

I didn't realise the Pennine BW was so close.

Whats the Craven Way and Black Rake Road like? The new Pennine BW looks like it'll link up with other stuff really well.

Appreciated
