I usually rund Geax Saguaro's all year, but am wondering if there is a better alternative to my old Trailrakers kicking around in the garage?

Yep mud-x, as an alrounnder they're outstanding. Swampthings are better as a pure mud tyre but far slower and heavier.

depends, I would never use a trailraker, too much road on my rides. ie some

Personnally use Mud X, not the best mud tyre but far better as a winter allrounder.

I've been using Trailrakers for the past 2 winters, I'll probably try some Mud X's this year.

Trailrakers are outstanding in mud. Scary as hell on roots.

As said trail rakers are awful if you have any road to do. I have run them when I lived on the trail! Then mudx came along and it's now a no brainer, esp as I have a good bit of lane riding.

Conti Baron for me. Bit bigger/slower/heavier than a Mud X or Storm but still livable with. Pretty comparable for mud action- not as good a cutter, but better the rest of the time. But miles, miles better for everything that isn't mud.

For me it's all about mud clearance, been a mud x user for years but would say spesh storm control shed mud best, especially the claggy chalky mud we get on the downs, they're a breeze to fit tubeless with track pump too.

Ran MUD-X's for 4 months and then changed to Trailrakers.
For me the trailrakers are SOOOOOO much rideable than mud-x.
More grip (apart from roots) and dont drag anywhere near as much.
Perfect for UK changeable weather conditions.

Yep, Trailrakers are unrivalled for pure bog trotting capability, but their performance everywhere else let them down. Horrid on roots and rocks and beyond draggy on decent surfaces.

Mud X is almost as good in outright mud but not unpleasant everywhere else. I've done half a 24 solo on them (the wet half obviously)

Another trailraker fan here. I have had a 2.1 trailraker on the front and a 1.8 Fire XC Pro on the rear all year. Mostly woody singletrack, mix of dry and muddy and plenty of roots.

I've just fitted a pair of Maxxis Beaver yet no-one saying yay they're great. Have I bought the wrong tyres? Racey XC/ all day type stuff is what I'm at.

If you're riding through nothing but mud (think Mayhem) then 1.5" Black Sharks work far better than Trailrakers IME, which I was thoroughly underwhelmed with. If it's more than mud then TRs are really really bad, so you may as well have the reduced weight and increased clearance of the Black Shark, or a better all round 'winter' tyre, like the Mud X/Storm/Dan.

I've been loving the beaver, so to speak.

They're great. Awesome fast wet tyre, or all-round damp tyre.

I wish you could still get IRC Mud Mads.

Front was this pointy thing:

Rear was like a paddle steamer.
