Of the current crop of 29ers which are the ones more suited for steeper, techier descents?
Obviously the 26er market is quite well defined in terms of trail, xc, AM etc but there doesn't seem to be as much emphasis placed on differentiating the types of 29er yet.
Intense do a 28er tracer.
The kona honzo is nice looking, canfield nimble 9 or yelli, that 2 souls one forget the name
Nicolai do a ac 29er and if you ask the nicely the will do a helius am 29er. the trouble is the lack of front suspension forks.
been trying to build/source a bike of this nature for 5 or so years.
got pretty near with a chumba hx2 frame and some 140mm white bros forks.
sold the forks and bought a ventana el capitan, which if mated with the 140mm forks, would have made such a bike...........doh 😀
Turner sultan is 125mm travel, with some fox 34 floats fitted it would be lush.
When the price of my arse hits 4k I'm having one........
What about the Bandit 29'er?
i would love a niner wfo, with some of those new fox 34 talas.
would have to remortgage i reckon tho..... 😀

All fairly "trail"-defined bikes in mainstream ranges which include XC 29ers. We're getting there with full-spectrum all-niches marketing of 29ers you know. 🙂
That WFO looks like you could just plough down anything!
Tbh I meant to say hardtails but now I'm quite taken with some of the full sussers. Having said that I've ridden the camber 29er and it's a fantastic bike.
the trouble is the lack of front suspension forks.
Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti 29's are your friend, I have a pair poised for a 140mm build
Lenz Lunchbox looks interesting.

Tazzymtb & doof-doof: what are they and what size? That one of yours looks mint doof-doof!

Tasty looking 2souls above!
Unfortunately it's not mine!
It's a 2Souls Quarterhorse.

Their website shows everything but their bloody products.
That is very, very nice though...
There is a products button on the top right of the site once you enter Ivan. From there you can get the full geometry spec, photos, etc. They only do 2 frames though by the looks of it.
Hmmm, not on my phone there isn't - I'll have a look later on the laptop. Cheers.
mine was something from the twisted mind of that Brant fella, mutated into somethin more silly by me
I like the look of that Quarterhorse. I assume they're ridiculously priced?
Niner WFO or RIP9.
Here's my RIP9. It lurves descending. I would give my left arm for a WFO.

Why would you want to ride tech on a hybrid?
Just been on the 2Souls website and can now see the products. Those are 2 very nice bikes it has to be said.
I've ridden the carbon and alloy Tallboys on a few occasions and whilst they're very, very nice they seem a bit to racey for me.
2souls is 900 euros
Why would you want to ride tech on a hybrid?
to prove that nancy boys who can only just manage it on 6" full bouncer ikkle wheel bike in full stormtrooper outfit a la MBUK really are rubbish and have no radsic skillz regardless of how gnar they think they are 😆
tazzy, high 5 brother........................... 😆 8) 8)
*gives ton a big hug back*
I haven't ridden one but the geo of the Tallboy seems better suited to race applications rather than steeper techy descents that the OP was asking about.
Hardtails - Mythic (Banshee) Paradox with a 120mm fork. Although that 2Souls looks gorgeous 😯
Full Susser - Mythic (Banshee) Prime with a set of 29er Rev's attached to the front!!!
Cheers for the idea re the Ventana Ton *runs off to source some non tapered 140mm 29er forks along with a moon on a stick* 😉 😯 😆
Yelli Screamy without a doubt .. 😉
This accounts for itself pretty damn well, its only running 120mm Rebas but never found it needing more. Found some mega steep rocky stuff today when I was exploring, literally had a river running down it and had total confidence in the bike. 🙂

Ok I'll be the one to ask. What is it brake-neck ?
*can't open imageshack 🙄
hx2
Really?!?!?! Didn't know they had that much stand over 😯
Thought you might spot that Ton 😉
Those commenting on the Tallboy, did you ride it with 120 or 100m forks?
I've ridden one with 120mm 15QR taper fork, 50mm stem, 700 bars and a Reverb post – bonkers fun!
I rode it with 100mm so 120mm might have been better.

If I wanted to buy a 29 trail bike I would buy a 29 trail bike.
I wouldn't buy a 29 xc bike and mod it up to behave like a trail bike.
Do SC warranty their tallboy frames if used with a 120mm fork??
Wish I'd not looked at this thread now, feel a tingling to a quarterhorse.
What about the Yeti SB95

And my own ARI custom made steel frame.

I nearly pulled the trigger on one but the frame is seriously hefty and they are supposedly bringing out a lighter 120mm version in the near future.
