🙂 excellent conversion.

Some of the chatter within the thread, some possible answers.

It's an ex emergency unit, so it's been maintained to a high standard, it's cheaper to drop in a new engine/gearbox than replace the vehicle, but high mileage is not uncommon, it might even be second time round the clock for a 10 year old unit on original engine, or second engine.

Anything with FERNO on it is spendy. The basic manual pump up stretcher is around £10K so direct bolt on floor mounts have second hand value.

Emergency units have in house cleaners so UV light sweep should come up negative. Light soiling is easily delt with, heavy soiling is sorted with deep steam cleaning, the saloon is designed to be easy to clean quickly. They are almost a rolling theater so high standard of daily cleaning during active shift and in downtime before next shift.
Non emergency PTS ambulances have a lesser cleaning regime and are deep steam cleaned every few weeks (depending on Trust or Contract)and daily cleaned by crews using them, or pulled from service and deep cleaned if heavy soiled.

Blue lights and sirens.
Lets just say....... if you happen to reactivate them, if they are in a state to be activated.
You really don't want to get caught having a cheeky blues and 2's moment to get through traffic.

The Pug Boxxer/FIAT/Merc sprinter type van units (more a converted white van) come in around the 3 ton mark equipped so if you have a restricted driving licence they are a better bet.
PTS units tend to be restricted to 68mph, no blues&2's
PTS High Dependency units are not restricted and have bigger turbos 🙂

That my friend is effing fantastic! Props to you! When I was a tech for VW we used to PDI the new ambulances. There 'may' have been a few blues & twos moments down the M32 into Bristol. Went well as I remember 🙂

very cool! but first thought... is it haunted? second thought... does it scrape at the back if you go up a steep hill?

No scraping at the rear as it has air suspension. It drives better with a bit of weight over the rear axle.
Although its big lump so not ideal off road.

it looks cool but i cant help but think with the logos you have made you van a target for folk who think its a motorbike race van.... ie likely to hae some tools and maybe a motorbike in the back.....

Yes true. Sometimes it has three race bikes in it. But I have secure parking. Not totally scrot resistant but well out the way.

😯

I'm not sure where you read that but from previous experience working in ambulances I'd say that that's some considerable way from the truth 😆

On a brighter note, that's a wicked conversion you've done there. Looks much better than some of the other converted ambulances I've seen.

Yeah, as a paramedic of 17yrs I chuckled too at the 'well maintained' bit....also snorted at the "rolling theatre" part and how they're scrubbed down every shift.

In my experience for two large NHS services, the vehicles get put away in crap state if you finish late (every shift!) and left for the oncoming crew to sort out....if they don't get a call straight away, which they will.

Our fitters are bodge merchants extraordinaires, this is the NHS remember, anything to save a penny.
The 'better' of the two vehicles on my current station is on 250k miles, I couldn't tell you if that's the original engine though.

Then you've got some of the more unsanitary things that go on in them between crew mates who have affairs together....bleugh, burn it burn it with fire!.

Don't forget the sticker on the back:

"No patients left in this ambulance overnight"

Is an ambulance, I'm sure it has seen a broad spectrum of body fluids on a regular basis

Slightly macabre but people tend to ask. If you are dead you don't go in one and they are very good at keeping people alive until you reach hospital.

People die everywhere. Probably in many places that are a lot less easily cleaned than an ambulance. They don't bin the seats on trains or buses or airplanes when someone carks it in one.

You should of said hello. Rode on my own today as mates have weather phobia!

My Mrs came with me and walked the dog whilst I got a ride in. When i came back she was in the van watching Sunday brunch with the diesel heater on.

It does have its uses!

Only just seen this. Superb work. The black line work on graphics is superb. Really works well.
Is all of it a wrap? i.e. the yellow colour is all wrap, not the paint underneath?

No, its a cheat. The van is yellow and the lines cut from the wrap and applied in a sheet.

I've seen a gixer around a bit. I'm up by the Traveller's Rest. I guess you'll be using the van for track days?
