philfiveon another note there should'nt be "cheeky" trails as we should campaign for full access rights.
We have the right to ride bikes on the hill so long as we are reasonable. What is reasonable is what this is about.
I understand and sympathise with bigthunders motives but this his proposed solution is IMO the wrong one in the wrong area.
druidh - MemberThe way I've been reading it, bigthunder seems to want to have "better" trails so that there's less rogue trail building going on where there might be user conflict. That seems like a reasonable approach and might, just might, result in an area which could be shared by all users.
there is potentially an area on offer where jumps have been built and tolerated before for people to have a more or less free hand trailbuilding.
i love the way we turn on our own
it isn't to do with that, just because we are all mountain bikers doesn't mean we are all right about everything ๐
Access is all about mutual understanding and cooperation. Taking it from a us vs them perspective causes more problems than it solves.
CH has to be developed, it's being used regularly and some of the trails have a lot of bushes/cover, potential for an accident is high.
Sbz - Ive been riding in CH for years and have had 1 conflict with 1 person. The drop Im talking about has a clear line of site all round so theres no chance of dropping on anyone. Ive already covered your other points. Bigjim- iknow im not right about it all and welcome different opinions which is why Ive had/am having meetings with various people. Kaesae I agree totally - the trails are there(I dont want any new ones made)they are being used so I feel they need developed and managed to make it safer and better for all users of CH. Drookit - yeah dog craps a pain. Especially when you see wee bags of it left 10ft from a bin. I expected a bit more unity on a site like this in relation to responsible trail building.
Aye I noticed loads of wee tied bags lying around. I assume they're full of dog shite. Why go to the bother of bagging it, just to leave a bag full of shite!? There are also loads of shite parcels hanging from trees. Some folk are mental. The Telford/Roseburn cyclepath right up Water of Leith to the Pentlands is just as bad for it.
Disgusting. Folk do it "coz theres no bins". To me its just litter and shite. If yer not gonna clean up then at least have the dog crap in some long grass. At least it erodes faster than leaving it in a plastic bag. Should have a community service squad cleaning it up.
I'm only this bitter 'cos later that day I had to carry my bike for a bit and got shite on my gloves, then subsequently scratched my face ๐ฟ
Nice. Im only bitter about it coz Ive got a dog and irresponsible owners drag us all down. Get a hard enough time just wanting to tidy up trails.
Carrying yer bike on CH!!? Youre a good enough rider for anything up there! Must be the masochist in ya.

Saw someone bagging their dog poo in the pentlands and hanging it from a tree (about 200 metres from a bin, at this point). Asked her why, she said "To make it easier for the rangers to collect", as if I was the moron.

I have never in my life seen this.
Is it a strange Scottish phenomenon?
Think it's a strange edinburgh thing, I've never seen it either.joao3v16 - Member

Mind you if you head up through kelvingrove on the way to mugdock, up at the maryhill end, you do see loads of bags tied to the railings, they generally contain, buckie bottles and cans of supy though!

Nah, they should post it back to the person who dropped it if you ask me! If I ever see anyone drop one I'll follow them with it and tell them they forgot something.
I wonder what the latest poo count on the path at Harlaw woods is, it was about 500 a few weeks ago, must be near a thousand by now. gross.
Be even worse if the snow comes. Dog owners seem to be under the impression that it disappears forever under fresh falls of snow. I think rubbing their noses in it is the answer. I'm talking about the owners, not the dugs.
dog poo litter droppers should be shot,
But on this topic though i got taken out by a thorn branch left aross a trail path .....they had looped it across two trees.....HEAD height!
luckyly i saw it and put arm out to protect face, thorn branch tangled up my arm and had pretty nasty cuts with thorns dug into arm...
If i had found out who is was............. ๐

That makes sense! I keep seeing wee bags hanging in trees or on fences in the Pentlands, CH and around the cycle network. I just assumed that neds had found the bags and thrown them about.
Last week I cycled past two young boys trying to set fire to a boot on the cycle path, so it seemed logical that they'd also revel in shite bag throwing games.
That would only make sense if the Rangers were actually employed to collect the bags.
Cammo estate is good for shite bags in trees also. Just hope that we dont get shit bag man sabotaging trails with them. A shit bag at face height would be bad. If I found them theyd get left in the woods.

What I meant was, I now understand why there are wee bags of shit hanging from trees around Edinburgh. Previously it was a bit of a mystery to me. Of course I don't agree with it and definitely don't think Rangers time should be wasted by other people's laziness.
I once found a load of leaflets for some weirdo church stuck in bags and left underneath various rocks on the route up a Munro. Can't remember where. Arrochar I think. Annoyed the hell out of me. I collected them all as I went, binned them and emailed a load of abuse to their church but they never replied. Sorry I've driven this a fair amount off topic... litter really pisses me off
bigthunder - fair enough. Best of luck with trying to get something sorted out there.
Thanks sbz - I appreciate that.

Common enough in Manchester to have had poster campaigns telling people to stop doing it I gather. I think the solution might be to hang some dog owners from trees.
Same round here. Though I've recently seen promoted on the woodland trust land "stick and flick it" signs. I.e. carry a stick and flick the poo into the undergrowth rather than dangle it from a tree in bag. Which seems a bit more sensible.
