[#8269205]

Mate of mine coming to the UK in march and I am keen to show him around. He will land in Manchester early March and we are going to go to Wales for 3 days mtb riding. Would like medium technical riding without anything too severe (good red runs, basic black runs). Some natural riding too would be a bonus. Fairly fit riders, looking for 3-5 hours riding at a good pace for the three days and not uplift style - part of the intention is to get some hours in the legs for events later in the year.

I have done Afan area a lot and want to look at North Wales - recommendations much appreciated as where to ride (gpx routes for natural riding a bonus!) and where to stay.

Thanks!

Just the obvious really. For Trail centres I'd look to Coed Y Brenin and Penmachno. If Penmacno is too short combine with some or all of The Marin Trail.

Bridleways I know less about, other than thet options are more imited than say The Lakes. Snowdon is the only thing I can remember doing. Infact its worth saying that if you don't want to ride trail centres then base yourself in the Lakes

I'd stay in or around Coed y Brenin - there is a place called Cae Gwyn Farm which I've stayed at before (even though I live on the N.Wales coast!) which almost opposite the entrance - converted barn, owner really accommodating and will cook breakfast although there's a microwave to make your porridge. Has secure bike lockup too.

From that area I'd suggest a day at Dyfi forest, taking in some natural stuff and finishing on the ClimachX descents. Also suggest CyB Beast or MBR for some miles. You aren't far from Penmachno/Marin which you can link up to make another long ride.

I've got some gpx for Dyfi - around 30 miles which is ace - email me if you want.

try flattyres-mtb.co.uk there's loads of good routes on there all over north wales and the north west. the Marin and beyond one I enjoyed recently, Conway mountain and some of the hard routes around Llangollen are killers.

Thanks for the replies. I think we will want say two days bumbling around trail centres and one day for a bigger , natural loop. I did some of the Trans Wales stage races and there were some fantastic sections of open moorland, rocky riding which I would love to repeat. Will see if I can find at least one biggish route, maybe 60-80k, and then some easy days at the trail centres.

Snowdon? Considering the MTb restrictions of course.

The Wayfarer across the Berwyn is a great open moorland trek.
