I realised today that I'm not sure what to call out when passing others. Is there a standard call? Should I just push on through and not say anything?
"on your right/left" is open to mis interpretation as in who's moving to the left/right.
"passing on your right/left" seems a bit long winded.
"Excuse me my good man/woman, I was wondering if....." Ain't going to happen.
I am more used to the short and succint "paso"
I have no kind of benchmark as I've not heard anyone requesting to pass me, mainly as no-one has passed me! 😕
Elite storm trooper ON YOUR RIGHT
and then overtake on the left.
What do others say when passing you?
Or does that never happen?
Usual practice is to sit roughly an inch of their back wheel and make sure you have got your loudest set of pro2's clicking away like mad.
Experienced mountain biker coming through.
I just go "NEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW"""
"I'm on your right"
...
"cheers"
inversely
"go throught"
Most people let me through but normally I pick a side and shout it
Or does that never happen?
Have a quick look at the last line of the OP. 😆
another trick is to attempt to give people the space they need.

Haha, is that a challenge? I promise you'll come off worse when I t bone you off at the first corner! 😉
Seriously though, you mainly ride degla don't you? Not surprised you never get passed, everyone I've ever seen there is slower than the shifting of the continental plates! Just shout "on your right" and pass on the right when it's convenient enough to get past without too much trouble...
what is the rush? seriously! trailcentre too slow/bogged with people? **** it Don you have North Wales to play with! no?
At trail centres I only ever really pass strangers on climbs or the fire roads so just chat with them as I pass, on descents I wait for a big gap before I set off to get a clean run but if I do catch them I'll pull over until they've given me a big enough gap to go again (or sometimes I'll push back up for a full run again). it's not a race 😆
**** it Don you have North Wales to play with! no?
Just bought a map and going for an explore tomorrow. 😀
Llandegla is quick and easy and I don't have to navigate or worry about time.

I bow down to thee what art ovbiouosly the fastest on the (trail centre) planet.
I agree with GW which must mean I need a large drink!
He's right, It ain't a race it's a bunch of grown men riding bikes in the woods.
I was once passed with the immortal words, "elite rider passing on the right, sugartits!"
Caught up with the rider. It was my husband.
Although to be fair, he says that to everyone he passes.
"Room for a sweaty one?" Normally space is made for an overtake.
I just go "NEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW"""
love this ha
Pass like a train innit. If you need to announce which side you're going for, you're not really fast enough to be passing...
That's what I said when I overtook you earlier parkes
HTFU, launch off the side of the trail, cut through the woods then gap jump onto the trail right infront of them. then shout 'on UR right'
sounds about right to me, no?
Don if you're riding at degla just pop out into the clywds, ace riding and no trail centre buffoonary to put up with. May be out on sunday morning if you fancy a guided ride
'To your right/left' depending on where they are positioned - get passed plenty uphill, but never DH yet with the exception of Fort Bill Black
Don: me n elfin are based in llandudno area for a week of bike shenanigans from sunday if you fancy meeting up to ride bicycles around less stressful places without bloody humans in the way!
+1,000,000 gw 🙂

Just got a map for the Berwyns which are practically on the doorstep, I'll take some guiding whenI'm abit more settled. Thanks though, I will probably take you up on it in the future. 😀
@ Kevevs, I'm not sure if I can get across next week, I have to find some time to actually work. 😉
This I like.
I just go "NEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWW"""
the berwyns are brilliant fun!
I think I'm going for a play on the Upper Ceiriog Way to get my bearings and see what's out there tomorrow, little by little. I'm slowly getting used to mtb UK.
Just use a little ping bell only £3 or less. Polite and only occasionally freaks people out like this bloke down the marina earlier. 😆 His GF thought it was funny, and the dog looked at him in disgust.
Don; come over to Llandudno with us lot, innit?
Sign up to MBNW and find out about rides all over t'shop.

Try "joputaquitatedeenmedioostia"
Works for me, it's the same in welsh.
Don't be silly.
Can't be the same in Walish; there's actually some vowels in there....
😆
Works for me, missing a bit of máricon just to smooth things along,no?
DH in Hoyo de Manzanares mañana...
I overtook someone once.
I think the phrase I used was 'Do you need a hand with that puncture?'
I overtook someone once.
Just the once? Going to have to work on the fitness petal. 😈
I may be slow sweetie, but I can keep going all day 😀
MUAK!
no worries don. be good to see ya on the trails 🙂 or anyone else!
It'll probably happen in the spring now, damned crappy shitty weather, I'm about to go into hibernation. Toofuggincoldandwettorideafugginbike! 😀
I was expecting GW to just ride over people!
... but have to agree with him, on trail centre riding.
Another vote for GW. I would feel rude sitting on someones tail, so I always hang back to get a clean run.
Luckily so far here most people I've caught up with have noticed I've been behind them and pulled over for me 🙂 If not so far the etiquette seems to have been "passing on your left/right", or some guys just shout "rider!" which seems a bit rude 😆
Just recently, I've been going with "mind if I play through when you get the chance?" Then drop back a bit until that chance arises. Or if it's a sweet bit that I know well, I'll open as much gap as I can before setting off. If you do pass someone, make it count. Don't sit two feet in front of them, make sure you disappear. Trail centres don't do much in the way of passing places. I'm had to so "no rush" or "only when you can" to people who looked like they were trying too hard to let me through.
I've also explained to my other half that she only stops or moves over when it's safe for her. Don't try to kill yourself for the benefit of a total stranger trying to rip past.
I do it like this...
