What is the done thing if you find a lost item of bike related gear on the trail? Do you leave be, prop up on a prominent tree stump/fence post or pocket it and call it finders keepers?

It depends on what it is?

Finders keepers isn't it?

However, of its of value, I would try to find its owner. (£30+ maybe)

If it was another mountain biker in a ditch, I'd probably hand them in, if it was a plastic tyre lever I'd keep it/bin it.

I've posted up to local forums and on here when Ive found stuff. If you get no responce then keep it. I left a camelback on a carpark once, guy got in touch via my thread on STW, got it back. Wife dropped a camera aswell and it was handed in. There is some good in the world.

Found an iPhone 4S while out riding once, the owner hadn't put a PIN code block on it... phoned the ICE number and the owner's wife came round to collect it. (I found it by the side of the road, the muppet had left it on top of his car before heading off on a business trip!) I'd make an effort with a wallet, too.

Pumps, sunglasses and the like? Finders-keepers. (If I were active on any local forums I'd probably make an effort to get Oakleys or the like back to the owner, but I'm not so...)
