The last couple of years our group has been searching out new trails in an area that we know fairly well. Its been good to find new stuff and its changed our attitude to how we amend and clear trails.
Since early last year we've moved from breaking back the odd obstructing branch and putting a few rocks in a muddy puddle, though to searching out and clearing sheep trails, to fairly extensive clearing of Badger trails. We've just recently started putting our own lines in. We now have saws, foldable spades, hand-chain saws and the like.
How far do you go?

I terraform Earth herself.
Actually, because this deserves a serious answer (not least because I miss Mendip like crazy)... 'tidying up' can easily morph into actual building. All very discreet, you understand. 8)
What building?
😉
Ive never made my own lines as its to hard on your own but cut back branches trees etc and put down newspaper with a bit of earth on top to mark out new paths. It stops stuff growing up from it in spring to the extent you have a clear line to ride.

Not done any bridges yet? 😉
It's a double edged sword - your improvement is somebody elses vandalism
We have lot's of fun building, it is a bit of a minefield on occasion though! 🙄
