Hi,
My mate is buying a new trail bike to replace his Marin Attack Trail.
He wan't a fairly short travel, but tough whip.
Things we've come up with are;
Santa Cruz 5010
Cotic Flare longshot.
Bird Aeris 120LT
Whyte t130 - he is against, because he is anti-plus, prefers tough 2.3s - runs double down minions, that type of thing
Transition Scout
He's dual income, no kids, so he doesn't care too much about price, he says.
Probably frame only.
27.5 only - long low and slack, but also poppy [decent amount of progression].

I've ridden all of these bar the cotic. Although maybe not the newest versions, and not necessarily in my size. I own the bird.
All good, transition and santa cruz probably the more poppy - possibly by virtue of being a bit shorter rather than suspension; as i certainly don't find the bird to wallow at all.
If you are rocky enough to warrant DD tyres front and back on a trail bike I would question carbon - at least one without a downtube protector

Bird 120LT fits the brief but it depends if he wants something more blingy. Takes up to a 2.4 on the back and a 130/140 fork.
He's very anti-carbon. In fairness I'd worry too. So he'll be picking up the alloy version of anything.
He's a bit of an odd rider to be fair - likes doing trialsy stuff - a wannabe Chris Akrigg.
