[#4846977]

Looking for places for hols and weekends away with 5,4 and 1 year old in our new van. Got 2 trailgators and wee-ride so we can tow three between 2 of us. We live near the peaks so we are spoiled for traffic free routes. Done the new forest and Cornwall and north devon. Where else has 2-3 or more traffic free routes in reasonable proximity that we could do over a week.

In particular anything suitable near Bridgewater in Somerset.

Nick

Forest of Dean?

There is the 'Family Trail' - 11 miles through the forest with 2 road crossings and
The 'Peregrine Trail' - approx. 6 miles between Monmouth & Symonds Yat East (beside the River Wye).
In addition there are miles of forest fire roads and several other family attractions

Thanks psling, I forgot we done FOD year before last, we did both those rides. Really like it there and will definitely be back. I think we are spoiled having 9 decent length traffic free routes around here.

- try sustrans - they have a mapping site

- look up canals, they can be pretty good

Taunton/Bridgewater canal - http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=327891&y=125805&z=120&sv=327891,125805&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=855&ax=327891&ay=125805&lm=0

well the mainly white road loop (w,s, e, n) that in early morning summer mist is beautiful, as was the Somerset farmers attitude - well I would if I was you = brill - *other back rds there quiet)

Portishead - to Bristol track, Bristol - Bath railway path

Canal from Bath to Bradford On Avon has some nice features

see Cycling without Traffic Southwest, John Price

*Emore Okehampton, Granite way

If near Bridgwater the roads across the Somerset levels are quiet and have little traffic on anyway. They are also very flat and straight so its easy to shepperd kids out of the way if a car comes

Taff Trail I think it's called - the one that goes from Swansea way, up into the Valley's that's off road, or very quiet roads, nothing too taxing....

Did you do the Tarka Trail North Devon?
http://www.devon.gov.uk/tarkatrail
Torrington to Barnstaple pretty flat and all off road, on old railway route.
Does the Big Sheep still race sheep?
