If I'm reading the 1st post correctly, you'd stopped to help a motorcyclist ?
If so, any tracker would just show you stationary near a ditch at the side of a road and your wife'd still be worried wouldn't she ?

You can get standalone tracking devices from ebay. I got one to track team mates during a 24 hour race. You put a sim card in , and just send a text to it. You get a text back with the devices location (as a link to google earth) Worked fairly well, but you need a sim and contract for it.

This is exactly what I want, and have been looking for for ages, but just as an app on my phone rather than a standalone device. Minimal battery usage and only needs phone (not data - although data coverage is pretty good these days) signal, and only sends a location when request by the person tracking.

Is there some technical reason you couldn't make an app to do that? It seems so simple.

We use Google Maps location sharing in everyday life as well as biking. If I'm returning from some place for work in the car she can track me instead of having to text to ask whereI am. Doesn't drain the battery any more than usual because it uses the location info that Google already has.

I like the sound of the Angi though - nice idea.

Yup, same here. It's just handy.

No mate, a motorcyclist unfortunately had a fatal on my route, but I was already long gone when it happened. She just heard all the sirens and commotion, and then saw the posts on local Facebook groups that there had been a 'bike' fatality, saw where, and had a bit if a panic.

Anyhows, we gave Glimpse a go last night and she's happy with it, and I'm happy it plays nice with my phone and the Wahoo app, so thanks everyone!
