Got my accreditation 1 at the glasgow velo in a couple of weeks and was wondering if there are any fellow STW'ers that are into track cycling and could give me any pointers for my first outing? ๐
The best advice is simple - keep pedalling ๐
The accreditation sessions are well coached for a really good introduction to the track. You'll walk in and shite yourself when you see the banking for the first time, 15 minutes later you'll be riding on it having a great time!
Only ever done a taster session at Newport, coach said something along the lines of 4 full laps on the outside of the track, probably amongst other things.
Wish I lived a bit nearer to one...
when you going ? I have mine on 10th Jan. A few folk from the club (GMBC) are through or nearly through the 4 stages
hey iainc, been meaning to book for a while and only slot i could get was thu 24th jan at 8pm..i think the bad weather is taking people indoors!
Track rules!
Keep pedalling.
Pretty much the same. The velodrome and 'drome staff & coachs are amazing.
Accred 1 is pretty simple, just getting you used to the bike first, then riding with others, then up high on the banking and eventually dropping down to the main line, a little taster.
Accred 2 is a little more involved, accred 3 is 2hours and pretty hard work, much more group movements and manouvres. Accred 4 is even more full on (but haven't done it yet).
Done acc 1&2, each an hour. The first time you go onto the banking , even up about 1 foot, you'll crap yourself, 2 laps later you won't even think about it. Keep your speed up on the banking, you don't want to slide down on your ass and take others out. You won't believe how much harder you need to pedal to get up the banking. Acc 3 &4 are 2 hours and more racing practice involved. Enjoy, you'll love it!
Done my accred 4 today and now qualified w00t w00t w00t
I think there was someone from stw there in the session before me as i recognised a tattoo (i cant remember a username but it is quite distinctive trees with a bike, does that sound familiar?).
Meant to say hello but you were talking to the coach and didnt want to interupt.
