Hi guys
Could anyone advise me on a tow-bar carrier for 4 bikes, 2 adult, 2 kid? The smallest is 16" so I'm guessing a ride-on version would work best, but the hanging ones look lighter and less faffy.
cheers
Can highly recommend one of these bad boys
Can also highly recommend one from maxxraxx. Very sturdy easy to take on and off and no worries with small frames.
Be sure and check your weight limits using a towbar carrier and 4 bikes.
Thanks guys. The Maxxraxx looks interesting, fairly simple to use. Anyone had experience of the hanging carriers vs roll-on?
I got a Thule 929 EuroClassic G6 LED Towbar Mounted 3 Bike Carrier with a 4th bike carrier, funnily enough after asking people on STW what they thought.
It's bloody expensive but the security of the locking mechanism and ease of puting on or off is great.
Be careful your exhaust does not melt the wheel cariers, mine did and I had to make a deflector.
The smallest bike we have on is Islabike Creig 26 plus 3 adult sized bikes, there is a bit of bar clashing and some of the saddles have to come out so be careful if you use a dropper.
Yeah I've used. Basic Thule roll on with light board it's ok It doesn't have those individual clamps luckily just toe clip type fasteners, main thing is though we do have to but big lagging on all the fork legs just one side to stop rubbing etc. mind I would probably do the same thing with the hanging one on long trips etc.

No just me then, I just let mine melt until it had deformed far enough from the exhaust gases, doesn't seem to be getting any worse. Other than that excellent carrier, just a little heavy and pricey.
We use a Thule one
Put these between the forks

+1 Check the max nose weight for your vehicle/towbar. The carrier may take 4 road bikes but will it be safe and secure with 4 downhill type bikes.
There is a list of details at the end of this link.
I've got both a MaxxRaxx & one of these.
Needed to buy the second one as I couldn't fit the MaxxRaxx to a swan neck towbar and use an Alko hitchlock as the hitchlock is obstructed by the swan neck clamp for the MaxxRaxx.
TBH I like both but the CycleMaster is quicker to fit (now i know what I'm doing with it) but a lot harder to store. there's not much difference in time fitting the bikes but because of the way the maxxraxx straps hold the bike in place I have noticed damage to the paintwork on the top-tubes on some of mine.
The No.1 advantage of the MaxxRaxx is that you can still use the tow bar provided you're either using the flange mounting or a swan neck with a trailer that doesn't have an Alko type hitch. It also makes a good mobile workstand if you need to do something to the bike while you're out.
+1 for Thule 929 euroclassic G6 with the extra bike carrier.
Is blooming expensive, but does absolutely everything you want (easy to use, locks onto tow bar, easy enough to put on / off, folds for storage, tilts even when fully laden for boot access, integrated lighting board...)
Works a treat for 2 adults + 2 kids + dog in the boot!
EDIT: The tilting operation - for boot access to the dog - was important for us. Not sure if the other racks offer that? Or if you need it?
