Further to my pannier thread earlier, I am now hatching a plan to go on a seaside week in the summertime with my family. Kids will be 1 and 3 so they will go in the trailer, and Mrs Grips is much less fit than me so I'd be carrying all the kit. Even with packing light I reckon I'd fill the trailer's fairly modest luggage capacity, front and rear panniers and a top bag. No problem with this (West Wales isn't that hilly.. is it...?!) but I'm not sure the R500 wheels on my Kona Dew would take it.

So for touring wheels - just basic Shimano hubs with 36 hole strong rims? Would have to be inexpensive. The bike only has V brakes so maybe ceramic rims to aid braking? Is 4 cross worth it? I would probably keep the normal wheels for commuting so these would be touring specific.

Then again.. how do I know if my frame will take it?
