Hi there, looking for a front rack option for my new surly ogre that would allow a drybag to be strapped down on top rather than using traditional panniers. Quite like the idea of the salsa minimalist rack, but less so the price. I've also seen the blackburn mtf-1, and just wondered whether anyone has had any experience of either or would suggest anything else? I think these are a better option rather than the revelate handlebar bags as I'm going to primarily use it for commuting and touring rather than off road. Thanks for your thoughts.
I've got a Old Man Mountain on the front of my Surly Troll. Its pretty light and solid, with tons of mud clearance. It's not cheap though.
the Salsa rack is lovely and well worth getting. Its easy to fit and remove, looks great and works very well. Stump up the cash and you'll not regret it, i didn't. ๐
I have the mtf 1 and it wobbled a bit so I made bracket to also attach it to the fork crown, this made it much more secure, but of course you need to have hole in your fork crown or be willing to drill. If it is just for a dry bag what about something like this.

Or if you want a posh version nitto do this

They also do a version with claps if you don't have canti mounts.
Thanks guys,
Mansonsoul, what model of OMM did you go for and where did you buy it from? Seems to get good write ups and like the fact you can use it with suspension forks too. Seems to weigh just a bit more than the minimalist which was a surprise and like the extra weight you can carry.
Drinkmoreport - thank you. How have you found the paint job btw? Heard a few folk felt build quality incl paint job was poor for the price?
Thebrick - the ogre comes with a hole in the fork crown - so this could be the cheapest option. Like the nitto a lot but am looking for a black rack and ideally one that fits to mid-blade eyelets, again present on the ogre, rather than the canti-mounts
Now more confused than before ๐
i've found the paint to be quite good, i've had it on the back of a Salsa Casseroll and now its on the front of a Fortitude Adventure. your welcome to view it if your close by?
Thanks for the offer and glad to hear the paint job is ok. I ended up going for an OMM sherpa and I'm very pleased so far. Rugged, strong and very light.
