[#2546461]

We're going for a trial cycle tour in May; 150 miles around the cotswolds in 3 days.

Been looking at panniers and tents and all manner of folding stuff.

Now my head is full of future plans... thinking about catching the ferry to Santander and riding along the coast all the way to St. Malo to catch the ferry back to Blighty.

Anyone done anything like this, or have any better suggestions of routes to dream about?

Dave

Done loads off-road, click on my user name and scroll down, I put quite a lot of threads up on here 8)

On-road, nothing yet, but two big plans are a coastal loop of Scotland, which totals about 1700 miles (I think, it was a while since I calculated it).

Further afield, I'm getting pretty excited about the potential in Norway, I had to discard plans to ride the whole west coast when I realised just how long that might take, but have planned a 1100 mile loop around Hardangerfjord/Bergen/Sudfjorden area.

Most looking forward to sorting my kit out for some hillwalking/touring hybrid action, especially around the Inverpollaidh area...

How about the North Sea Circle?

north sea and norway do look like good routes, but at the moment my mind's eye is picturing hot weather and frequent stops to swim in the sea ๐Ÿ™‚

I've just found the EuroVelo routes - they seem pretty extensive. I like the idea of route number 1 - tip of norway down to sagres in portugal - would be tricky to pack for that one (down jacket and flip flops?)

I rode across Europe last summer. Learnt a lot about touring along the way! The river valley from Le Havre to Paris is very nice. My advice it travel as light as you can. You don't need chargers and 4 Tshirts. Cut down as much as you can and you'll enjoy your ride so much more.

On this side of the pond, check out the adventure cyclists association, they do really great maps that make planning your trip really easy:

We did the Oregon coast a couple of summers ago, which was great. Portland to San Fransisco could be done in 2 weeks, we took a leisurely pace and stopped in the giant redwoods further north.
Last summer we rode the Cabot Trail around Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, a Canadian classic.
