Thinking of doing a road trip next summer. it will be about 2500 kms in northern europe. i'll be taking a tent etc but tend to still travel relatively light.
anyone have any idea how long it could take?
Taken from our blog http://pompinos.blogspot.com/
5,000 km
73 kph top speed (45mph)
0 punctures
0 mechanicals
Average speed about 21 kph
Average distance about 80 km per riding day.
65 days riding out of 75 ish.
Longest day was 140km IIRC.
Sounds about right stoner for a normal sort of tour.
ours was similar to stoner - averaged 80km per day for about 45 days ish when riding round nz - we had lots to see and do and friends to meet with on our travels though. we did 140kph from milford to te anau though as we had no food to split the distance and zero shops !

Phew, thanks TJ. I was worried we'd got it all wrong and done an abnormal sort of tour!

We usually managed about 100km a day - though that was on a tandem (I go slower unloaded on the tandem, but faster touring), and not carrying camping stuff. Also the longest we've done is 10 days. On that basis 80km a day sounds about right, though I'm sure I could still manage 100 or even more a day without too much fuss.

That road was amazing to drive along, let alone ride.... soooo want to take the bikes there one day.....<sigh>
Start off doing about 80 kms per day rising up to between 100 - 150 depending on wind/terrrain (although I have done 350 kms just to see I I could though).
Normally set off at seven and ride till 12 ish, eat, drink, sleep and then ride until 8ish or when I see a good bar.
Tour with a bob yak/monoporter on a hartail with slicks and a set of high rollers lashed to the back.
Would rekon on 4 to 6 weeks including rest/ half days.
