Dunno if this is of any interest but some mates are currently racing in an MTB stage race in Timor. Wheres Timor i hear you ask ? Sort of Darwin then turn left - generally you hear its capital referred to only in new items that start "Todays gunfight in Dili...."
Anyway - race entry was .... free. Flights from Darwin were ..... free. There's prize money. Food...free. Hotel...free. So they thought it was worth it for an adventure.

I've been to West Timor before. Spent a few days in and around Kupang. Pretty chilled place. East Timor was off-limits in those days.
Yeah this is East and is slightly in-limits sort of. Not the most balanced place but a lot more peaceful than it has been. We had a wake before they left just in case....
