Anyone else starting to become a bit of an Alaphilippe fan?

I suspect Warren B might not be. But I am most definitely a fan.

Just some nice touches today. Waiting for Yates after the crash (would have been even cooler if he'd then ignored the orders to ride on), then the unbelieving shakes of the head before that 300m celebration to the line.

Completely.  He looks so happy at the point when he knows he's got it.  And QS too of course, they keep the whole season animated

He would finish the stage within the time limit, but later abandon the race due to injuries to his left knee.

Rode the remaining 50k out with a broken knee cap!

Alaphilippe

Me too, lovely to see such an exciting rider and One who is so happy to boot!

Did you hear the post race interview with him where he said he waited for Yates a bit? He appeared to feel that he didn’t think it was fair to take the advantage over a crashed rider but as soon as he saw that Yates wasn’t really up to the descent any more he carries on. That’s some really fine sportsmanship.

It’s the Quick Step ethos:

Ride fair but hard, play by the rules, be a gentleman.

There are a lot of teams in the Pro Peloton who have long since dismissed the second, smudged the first and didn’t even know the third existed.

It's good to see sportsmanship amongst the riders on the tour (when there's no fisticuffs!!) - I noticed that when Gilbert dropped back to the peleton, all the lead out riders (read Sky) spoke to him / checked on him.

Did anyone else’s blood run cold when they saw the drop Phil Gil had fallen down? I can see why there had been a death in previous years (yes I know it wasn’t exactly the same sort of accident), I wouldn’t like to fall down there in full MTB downhill body armour, never mind a single layer of Lycra.

It’ll really suck having the injury but he will probably realise he was fairly lucky not to come off much worse - I bet it was terrifying heading towards that wall just after the Fabio Casartelli’s monument.

It was a bit of a weird crash, it's like he hit the apex too fast and straight and once he'd unclipped his left foot the bike got really squirrely and he seemed to accelerate. Hard to judge how fast they're going from behind.

I've been a fan since the TdF 2016 when he was in a breakaway with Pantano and Majka before a mechanical delayed him.

Agree he shows great sportsmanship.

Alaphilippe is some descender. It was beautiful and frightening in equal measure.

Yesterday must have helped in LeFevere's hunt for a new title sponsor. Mind you, if the QS all stars can't secure new sponsorship after the season they've had you have to wonder about the future of pro cycling. BMC will be sponsored by a Polish shoe company?! next season.

I thought that 🙂

Tricky to pull off if you haven't got legs like that!
