So a week to go for my first tour de ben nevis . Anyone got any advice on what to carry with me or just general hints and tips . The plan is just to finish and enjoy the day out and hope for good weather

Rode it last year, to my big surprise, 2nd vet ๐Ÿ™‚

Pace yourself well. First tarmac climb goes on for a fair bit then it kinda undulates until the first timed descent.

Make sure you have good tire pressure for the first timed descent as there are drainage bars on it and loads of people puncture. Big road climb after this so pace it well.

There's a good chance you might cramp up on the hike-a-bike so watch your hydration/electolites.

Enjoy, it's a great event and rewards the allrounder.

The hike-a-bike has several false summits.
Take waterproof socks for after the river crossing.

Take one of those tiny cans of coke, drink it at the feed station after the hike-a-bike, it'll taste like nector from the gods and give you a massive boost for the final push for home!

Ignore everyone that bangs on about changing socks after the river crossing and just MTFU.

Thanks all , the biggest problem i have at the moment is avoiding the temptation to try and put the entire contents of the garage and a full weekly shop on my back , will try and travel light

Ridden it twice and both times wished I'd never taken a bag. A heavy bag would be torture!

Noob. All winners stop to change socks and for a hearty lunch!

Same as most peeps above. Can of coke at the feed station after the hike a bike and like one other I cramped up after the hike a bike as well. Just be prepared to get wet! Hope the weather's good as it's a stunning bit of the country.

There are at least a couple of feed stations where you can top up on energy drinks, snacks.....they even had a BBQ after stage 3. So you don't need to carry that much of your own food. Good waterproof jacket is a must plus some spares and a couple of tubes.

No need for waterproof socks. If you are trying hard enough wet feet should be one of the least of your concerns ๐Ÿ˜€
