Replacing a few bolts with titanium (or maybe stainless), torque to the same setting or reduce slightly?
Genuine question but why would you torque bolts less due to what material they're made from?
I'm very sure that all bike bits are designed based on the stresses placed upon them (I might be wrong mind).
I remember reading something about the torque rating being for the bolt.
I'm guessing a certain bolt at a specific torque would provide so much clamping force which is then considered suitable for the application.
A same sized bolt from an alternative material may be more (or less) stressed at that setting?
You have to consider what the material is that the bolt is threaded into as well as the structural integrity of the part that is being clamped.
Titanium or steel bolt into an aluminium thread, it is always going to be the aluminium thread (in your nice expensive component) that will fail first.
I look at torque settings as how loose you can leave the bolt rather than how tight it needs to be.
