Can the collective tell me what the course at Gorrick is like for Torq?
My step daughter and sister in law fancy riding but how does the course compare to Mayhem (Gatcombe) and Twentyfour12 at Newnham. They have ridden both this year so will ride if it's not any more techy than those!!!

It's not technical at all - flowy natural Singletrack through the woods. Some bits are a bit rooty and tight but nothing scary or difficult.

Lots of singletrack, a few small bombhole-ish-type features, all in the woods, so a few roots. No massive climbs. Lots of fun to ride and probably less techy than twentyfour12 this year - which was a brilliant course imo. Much more fun than the mayhem course!
Its a smaller event than both so seems pretty friendly too. Recommended!
About 8 miles, mainly flowing pinewood singletrack interspersed with fire roads. No great elevation changes but a few short and sometimes reasonably sharp hills, means it isn't physically as easy as the terrain might suggest off a map. Drains really well, even in torrential rain it would be rideable although the sandy soil does eat brake pads!
I'd say nothing too technical, maybe a couple of drops / roll ins off banks into sunken fireroads, etc. I didn't do gatcombe or 24:12 so no idea what to compare to. If there's one thing that could be an issue, it'll be that if it's wet after all this dry weather some of the roots are going to end up highly polished and they can bite if you don't pay attention.
Overall, it's a brilliant event - I'd say do it. Really chilled vibe, nice camping area close to the event centre, beer and band tent for later on, disco under the bridge to nowhere, tunnel of lights, and the chance to laugh at me attempting my first solo.

I signed up today for the 12 hour event! I've a separate thread running with some specific questions - if anyone could help I'd really appreciate it - I'm a first time enduro rider and doing it solo!
Re. the camping, the website says solo entries camp on the start finish line, is this right??
You can camp on the start finish line if early enough but personally I prefer the next field along - usually quieter with more space to set yourself up in plus easy to camp next to the track which makes it easier to grab supplies (I am not going for the win, just the craic)
Nice course, not too technical. Lots of roots and trees a few short climbs and a couple of roll ins.
More technical than mayhem (and more fun!), less than Newnham. As has been said there's a couple of short steep drops which could catch people out. Pre ride the course so you can check these out with no pressure of riders behind. If they rode Newnham with no problems they'll be fine.
Thanks guys. If I can fit both bikes in the car I'll be taking both with me. The FS is sounding more preferable given the tree roots etc. I arrive Saturday afternoon so will be able to pre-ride it.
Yep, lap done this evening and it's great. Nothing startling, a couple of steeper sections one of which goes a bit funny near the bottom where it's a new bit and there's no obvious line yet around the filled in shell scrapes. And a few new sections which need the benefit of a few hundred wheels to compact them down a bit. I'll be riding my Anthem, just so i can sit down and keep spinning across the rooty sections, if you were proper racing i think a hardtail would be faster up the two or three fireroad climbs.
I'm not fast by any means anyway, and was really pootling to save energy for my first solo attempt and lapped in 54 mins. So if I'd been racing I'd reckon mid 40's quite possible for someone of my ability, and the quick boys will easily be in the low 30's. So if you're coming to win, you'll need to be working on 20+ laps........
