Pull the cage away from the clamp, as if you were changing into the big ring, which way does the pinch bolt go? If it goes up then top pull and if it goes down-Im sure you can work that out for yourself ๐Ÿ˜‰

If it is a current 9 speed mech it could be dual pull. Is there a model number on it? Usually back of the cage.

looks like it might be dual pull.

the allen bolt moves upwards when the cage moves out. You can do that with a top pull cable connection OR if you run the cable from underneath over the cam arm to the bolt, it can act as a bottom pull.

Newbie here: I did do that and it goes up but then phoned Chain reation, and they said that the cable routes over the top of the detrailer. Think I must be thick but I cant figure anyway that it would route over the top.

you bring the cable up over the black cam before fixing it into the pinch bolt.

shouldnt there be a rut cut into the top of the cam or something to route the cable?

I cant tell because your photo is out of focus.

Some of them have guide flanges on the cam arm to keep the inner in place.

Thanks for not replying to my mail the other week - was trying to help you Lauraly with your mech problems even if you didn't want my old LX bottom swing bottom pull mech!

Looks like top pull to me. But tbh I only think that as dual pulls tend to be far bulkier.
