Top 3 with bullet points... I will kick off.

KS dropper seatpost - 3 years and 3 calbe cleans later still working great.

Casco Viper helmet - great lid that adds confidence especially when remote riding tech stuff, cooler than a full face too.

Wingnut backpack - low slung with accessible side pockets, looks odd but works great.

Car's - otherwise I'd still be riding round the edges of fields not knowing there was anything more interesting to do.

Bikes - no standout components on my Pitch, Lyrics, reverb, XT brakes, Silentguide, XT 10 speed, hope hubs, Mavic rims, etc, it all works and works very well. None of it's better than anythign else anymore.

Mountains - because a 30 min decent is always better than a 30 second hill.

Interesting topic, well done. Here would be my three and in no typical order, first off I would choose
Dual brake/shifter set- fabulous invention!

Secondly I would chose my met parachute, hence my recent post, protection is of the upmost importance in ones collection.
And thirdly is a very close one between my elbow pads or my reflective ankle straps, that might sound quite bizarre to some of you but as your choosing your up and down seatposts! 😆 I'd rather be seen thank you very much!

Recently, it's reliable disc brakes, XC suspension forks that don't flex around like hell and Stans tubeless rims and goop.

1. Indexed shifting. Most of us probably would not be riding MTB if we had to feel the gear changes manually with a friction system. Indexed gears made gear changing gears so much easier, almost second nature.

2. MTB Specific (Compact) Cranks and cassette. Initially "Micro Drive" 22-32-44 with a 12-32 cassette. Again, a lot of us would not be riding trails if we had to use borrowed touring gears in the 24-34-46 and a 12-28 cassette as the widest sperad. The lower gears made MTB accessible to average recreational riders, and cut the number of hike-a-bikes substantially.

3. Suspension. A skill compensator maybe, but makes riding much less fatiguing and more enjoyable so easily adopted by average folks. Most average recreational riders would be put off of MTB if rigid was the only option.

4th would be MTB specific tires, but the OP only asked for 3.
