I've got hopes and avids brakes, both take 5.1 is there any difference between each brands oils or will one work for the other?

What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

500 ml bottle from halford or similar. 5.1 is a specification.

Actually, IIRC, halfords only do 250 or 1000 in 5.1. 250 is enough for three or four bikes though.

Any 5.1 will work in any system designed for it.

Dot 4 and Dot 3 fluids will work as well, depends how much of a fettler you are, you can get racing brake fluids which have significantly higher boiling points when fresh dry, but decrease rapidly when they absorb moisture and therefore only meets the DOT3 spec, but has a dry boiling point well above the 5.1 in halfrods.

As the DOT is a standard you either meet this or you dont ,anything else is marketing [ ie BS that wont affect performance].

Yes, but you can meet the dry standard, and exceed it by a margin, but not meet the wet standard, hence why some fluids are DOT 3, but are used in preference to dot5.1 in cases where it's going to be changed regularly rather than left for 2+ years in cars (which is what the dot 5.1 spec was designed for).
