Anyone got one? Any real reviews?
Not out 'til end of January.
Strange, I had one last May
Yeah, just realised my mistake, was thinking El Guapo 29er 🙂
Yep, and I think it's brilliant. I would suggest that it's not an out and out racing snake of a bike, but as an all day ride, or long distance racer it is brilliant. The suspension set-up seems to be on the firmer side, and feels considerably more than 100mm of travel. It's a very capable trail bike and I'd have no issue riding it on a lot more than just XC routes.
The other things I like - the colour is unusual and the frames/bikes are pretty rare over here. I've still not seen another one out and about or at events. It's got a reasonably long top tube (like other On One offerings) so I like that. Santa Cruz I find too short for a given frame size.
Downsides are that there is very limited space for the water bottle within the frame triangle, given the shock position. The blue paint is pretty soft and you will need to use heli-tape or similar to protect it from cable rub.
Hope that helps a bit. At the current sale price for the frames, they are an absolute bargain.
cheers, does yours have the monarch shock, any thoughts on that?
yes, it has the Monarch Shock. Very pleased with that to be honest, it works well, feels nicely controlled without wallowing through the travel or being too fussy. All in a great package, particularly for the money.
My missus just bought me a Rockstar frame as iv been off work with bad Sinisitus so she was trying to cheer me up! What a legend!
Going to build it up over Christmas and have bought some 2013 Sid's from On One for £299! Have seen some 2012 Rebas though from Merlin for £269 and they are tapered and 15mm were the Sid's are QR and non tapered so will need to buy a reducer headset. both 100mm though.
Any thoughts? Have 28 days to return the Sid's if need be. This bike is going to be built up for Mountain Mayhem and other endurance rides next year. I only have an Alpine 160 as my do it all bike so was getting a bit sick of hiring or borrowing for specific events.
All the best,
Lee.
I've got a v1 with an rp23 and f120 forks and I love it, the rear end feels nice and controlled but not overworked which I think is down to the nice low 2-1 leverage ratio on the shock, (200x51 for 100 travel) and with 120 front it munches lumpy bits for fun but still climbs well and feels well balanced with the rear,
Over the years I've tried looooads of different bikes but this is the first that actually does descend like a 140mm AM bike and climb and pedal like a short travel xc bike,
I can't vouch for the monarch shock though as I've a limited and bad experience with RS shocks in the past and wouldn't have another tbh, though 200x51 is a common size so a nice rp2-23 wouldn't be hard to source, mine came with a low rebound tune and medium compression tune which feels spot on to me..
For the money it's a steal IMO...
