[#2873413]

Hi guys,

Im sure its been asked a million times!

However, i am back riding after 5 years out due to injury after injury!

Now as eveyrthing has changed, so has tire choices and advances in technology of tires.

So basically, i ride a santa cruz heckler and mainly xc and am(ocassional dh runs and bike park)

What is the best, all round, do it all, tire?

I know there is no tire that does it all perfectly, but generally what are peoples opinions and preferences?

ideally i want a 2.25 or bigger?

Thanks guys, let the opinions flood in!

I've just put 2.35 maxxis high rollers on my charge duster. Transformed the bike for me. I prioritise durable over lightweight though.

depends on where you live, how you ride, what your trails are like, how wide your rims are, etc.

I like Rubber Queens in 2.2 (they are bigger than a maxxis 2.35) Black Chilli compound on Dt Swiss 5.1D rims on my Heckler for general purpose around Northumberland and the Lakes. Copes well with most conditions and is very good for damp and dry natural trails with or without rocks and tree roots. But I also have many "special occasion" tyres in the garage.......

I have a heckler on ex500 rimes, so the same as 5.1d really!

I have been looking at ardents, but they seem to be so mixed bag!

Rubber queens sound good to me!

Very big fan of Ardents here, 2.25 front and back.

I sometimes put a high roller on the front, 2.35.

Tubeless all the way

+1 with rubber queens, or you can look at the X-kings 2.4 protection. Stay away from high rollers as slow imo.

Bontrager Big Earl Wet - like a High Roller but better: just as grippy but faster rolling imo.

Thanks for your opinions guys! appreciate it!

I think im going to have to try the rubber queens, then if not, the ardents second!

Surely the spelling of tire/tyre depends on where you come from? as well as color/colour..Unless your british and use a mac, as spelling autocorrect id default american english, so color and tire are correct ha!

Going tubeless is definitely worth it, best not to buy tubeless tyres just use no tubes tyre sealant to seal them. You will not be disappointed with the rubber Queens, truly awesome tyres fast and never let go. My mac lets me spell tyres the correct way!

Id say 2.2 Black Chilli Rubber Queens too.

I don’t know what continental do with the black Chilli stuff but my rubbers strangely feel faster rolling than any of my maxi tyres including 2.2 exception series crossmarks and aspens 😯

Sticky on the front, hard compound on the back. Minion STs are a very good front tyre 2.35s are on the narrow side but not too small.

Tubeless can be a faff to setup but worth it if you regularly pinch puncture.

BTW you mention ardents and rubber queens 2 quite different tyres, from what I hear/read, ardents summer/dry, RQs more all round/wet.
