Anyone rate these better than SPD's for winter mud/ice/snow?

Also, any better generally in better/normal riding conditions?

Cheers

I have 4 pairs of various ages all fit and forget. I found them more comfortable than my Shimano pedals.

Bought a 2nd hand pair of the platform type, they are fantastic!

Yes and yes.

Better mud release and more float than an SPD. The amount of float available depends on the direction in which the cleat is fitted. One direction gives 15 degress float, the other 20 degrees (e.g. 15 degrees heel out, 20 degrees heel in).

The cleats allow an easier release once they have bedded in. I usually file the cleats down a bit before fitting (the 20 degree side more so) for an easier release from new.

The Alium model is more durable in terms of wear than the plastic XE/XS.

Thanks for the replies.

So, the Alium are the ones to go for, not the more expensive plastic ones?

I use Shimano M770 XT, which would be the Time equivelant Aliums and Shimano M647 platforms on the FS. Those would be the Time Z Freeride Pedals?

Got some z freerides for sale if you want them, very good condition, usual scratches but bearings and seals all excellent, with cleats.
