I've never worn tights, on or off a bike, always gone for shorts an man-up to the cold, but I'm somewhat curious, apart from them making you look a bit queer does thier function outweigh this?

tights are awesome - sore knees and cold lower back is not fun - bib tights all the way.
couldnt see myself not using tights....
