tight spot in chain

on my bmx, currently have a tight spot. Anything I can do to rectify this, other than perhaps a new chain which would be very annoying .. Ta

Do you mean a stiff link? Where the inner and outer plates aren't able to rotate freely? You can fix this with most chain tools, you need to have one with a 'loosening' shelf.
(in this image, its the teeth above the chain - ie the ones that the chain is not sitting on)

Or is it a chainring running out of true? does the tight spot appear in the same place on each turn of the pedals or in the same bit of chain?

If it's a tight link just flex it side to side across the tight link. Doesn't need a lot of pressure, you don't want to pop a link. Or chain tool if you have one to hand.
