Is it as crap as it appears to be on mine? New bars, first time I fitted the roof box and both sides of the rubber on both bars now ripped 😡. It also makes fitting anything into the track extremely difficult.
It is that crap. I've tried washing up liquid, a smidge of waxy stuff. It's just a crap design.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I completely remove it when I fit my roof box. Or are you talking about the plastic end caps? (which are fine on mine as well)
I used to remove the one piece strip on the old original wing bars but then they whistle. This was supposed to stop that but not really much good when what used to take 2mins (fitting a number of bike carriers) now takes 15-20 as they are so hard to slide.

Ah I can see that being a massive pain to fit around things. If I wanted to keep it in I'd look at fixings that secure around the bars rather than use the T track fittings. Higher end thule boxes have a claw type setup and you can get adaptors for their bike racks which fit non t track oval bars
I just have the t track open when using my racks / box , can't say the noise is particularly bothersome, then again I have 2 boys shouting the majority of a drive....
I didn't used to slide mine in and out I used to lie it down and pop it in. Much easier.
The rubber strip on my front bar ripped almost right away. Tear was getting longer so I just cut it about 4inches in. Rear bar has been fine. I always load my bars from drivers side. I think the front bar had the trimmed strip edge facing out while the rear had the factory cut edge facing out (if that makes sense) so I reckon that my cutting of the strip has lead to it ripping somehow. Looked into a new strip but it was over £20 for 1! **** that.
I cut it into shorter sections, that way I could fit carriers or remove them and just refill the gap with the rubber. They still whistled though. Quieter when racks were fitted weirdly
If you're trying to slide the strip into the bar groove, that's wrong. Just lay the rubber strip on top of the groove and push it down into the groove - use a bit of water to help it if you like although i found it unnecessary.
I'm trying to slide the accessories onto the bars. I managed to slide the strip into the bars just fine.
I'm tempted to return them as not fit for purpose. The foot pack is much better than the old design but I can fit those to the old bars I still have.
I used to have the same issue on Thule aero bars, and on some newer Yakima bars. I’ve always slid the rubber in, sounds like that might be wrong ^^^. Anyway, I’ve since changed bike racks to Yakima Highroad partly because you can just strap them on very easily without messing about with the t track. Much better.
