Hi! Buying a towbar mounted bike carrier, 3 bike capacity and like the Thule option to increase to 4.

Which would you go for? Velocompact or velospace xt? No ebikes or fatbikes to carry (I’m seriously uncool...), but mountain bikes, road bikes and kids bikes. Hopefully I’ll work out how to attach a weehoo!

As far as I can tell, velospace heavier, but better compatibility. Velocompact is lighter but potentially smaller. I ride XL bikes for what it’s worth!

I can't compare the two but the Velospace is excellent, we've got the XT2, very solid and quick to mount and load the bikes up. I'm sure the compact would be too.

We hang ours on a tow ball that's mounted on the garage wall when it's not in use.

Also tips right out the way for a large van tailgate.

Sorry to not answer your question... but at the top end have you also looked at this one. It’s brilliant, best I’ve had by a mile including Thule. Takes seconds to fit and remove and very sturdy. Will deal with larger bikes. Great build quality, had mine 2 years, used at least once a week and like new still.

Can't compare either, but the Velospace, I have the XT3, is very good. Had my DH and the two kid's bikes on it across France this summer and use it every weekend to take my Jeffsy for a run out 🙂 Even with the DH only on 2.5, and it's a medium (I'm not tall), and Medium Jeffsy on 2.4 rubber, I wouldn't want anything much smaller.

And yes, there are two tipping positions. Mine live on the back of my Peugeot Partner and on the furthest tipping position clears the tailgate well (doesn't on the other position...)

Mine only had one, until I drilled an extra one but now there's loads of space to clear.
